  1. leaning tower of pisa

  2. yes! The Grand Hotel de la Ville is excellent. they have a website and speak excellent english. if you ring up ask for Gaetano on reception. it's 4 star and you can get half board very reasonably priced. I've been 4 times and the quiet location near the town centre is just perfect.

  3. Gran Versuivo (not sure on spelling).

My parents went there last month and loved it.

  4. I was recently in Sorrento.  I stayed at Hotel Desiree.  It's a ten-minute walk from the city center, along the cape (I traveled by foot only- no rental car).  There are great views and a private beach.  The staff are very friendly and will help you organize excursions to Pompeii, Vesuvius, etc.  Breakfast is included.  Unfortunately I can't find a website for the hotel (I booked by phone) but I can provide you with a link to a few of my photos and the contact info (they speak great English).  I believe this hotel is recommended in the Rick Steve's Italy 2006 guidebook.  Rates are very good- a single room was EUR 60 in April.  See the link.

  5. The Mar Alimuri in Meta, one of the four villages of Sorrento, and one of the few properties on an actual beach.  There is not many beaches, because the coast is nearly all cliffs, but there are afew beaches, and the Mar Alimuri is on one of them.  Beautiful hotel, good food and service.  I stayed there for a week in February and it was very nice

I am a travel agent, and I can help you get a reservation if you like.  E-mail me at larry@travelallover.com and I will be happy to assist.
