if you are looking for Sept, it is not much cheap as other months, but try to select two or three star hotel than hostels, you can enjoy with good facilities..

Aphrodite Hotel, Hotel Parco Tirreno, Hotel Arcadia can recommend you...

I suggest you Eurostars International Palace hotel - via Nazionale 46. It's a good one and very well located, just in the centre of Rome, close to the mains beauties of the city.

Hotel Orlanda - My brother and I stayed there last year and it was fine for two people. It is next to the train station and convienent to many other places.

try samrooms. its considered a hostel I think but its more like a hotel. pretty inexpensive for the quality and its located about 4 blocks from the colloseum.
