Not too formal, near the theatres, maybe French. I'm out of touch with the London scene and I'd really appreciate your advice - thanks

  1. 'arbutus' in frith street is great. Mains around £15, great wine list and reasonable. I have been told that it has won best new restaurant of the year.

  2. I went to Sarastro resto (covent garden) when I watched Lion King Theatre.. It's turkish and european.. have Unique decoration! some foods delicious, I like their lamb anatolian and vegetarian pasta.. They have a sister resto which has the same decor and menu, but dont go there.. dont know why the last time i went there it didnt taste good as Sarastro..

I found a nice italian resto, DA MARIO in covent garden (63 Endell street, WC2h 9 AJ), small and warm resto, deliciousss food, good service, good price.... would definitely go there again....

  3. Covent Garden is packed with tourist rip-offs, but Incognico in Shaftesbury Avenue could be what you are looking for - French bistro food but in a league apart from most in the area.  You are also near Soho here, so there are plenty of other options.  At the top end there is Lindsay House in Romilly Street (1 Michelin star) while in nearby Chinatown my favourite is the Fung Shing in Lisle Street (Mr Kong, a few doors down, is also excellent).  In Haymarket is Mint leaf, a little-known but very impressive up-market Indian restuarant with a nice bar and top notch food (though it is not cheap).

  4. I work a minute away from Covent Garden - le palais du jardin is definitely my favourite, maggiores is also very good as is the Ivy, asia de cuba, and j sheekeys.

go to toptable.co.uk and type in the area, and check out whats on there - they review the restaurants and tell you prices, locations, dress codes etc - a much better way for you to find out what you want to eat than this is - or if you havent the time and are prepared to pay up to £100 for two of you including wine, just go to le palais du jardin.

Alternatively if you are on a tigher budget and really want french, le Garrick is very good and is certainly even more french than le palais.

  5. Le Palais d'Jardin on Long Acre, Covent Garden. Not that cheap (£15 for a main) but the food is fantastic and the atmosphere is great. Kinda posh without the pomp - No dress code or anything.

  6. There are plenty of French cafes or restaurants, quite near the theatres. Two of my favourites are:

Cafe Rouge and Le Escargot, near Tottenham Court.

I hope this helps.....and not too dear either!
