  1. There is lots to do in León, i visit every month. Ill give you a couple spot you have to check out.

Ok, when you arrive, i assume you'll arrive in Managua at the Augusto Sandino International Airport. Spend a day in Managua sightseeing, its really nice. From Managua take the new highway to León, less than an hour.

Ruben Dario, one of the most influential poets in the Spanish language was born and raised in León, you can visit his house which is now a museum. An interesting thing about the house is that another of our famous poets spent his childhood there (after Dario) and he went crazy there. There is a plaque in Dario's old room dedicated in his memory. As for other museums there is also the "Museum of Legends" which is weird but nice to see, the Indigenous Subtiaba museum dedicated to the Indigenous people, and the entomological museum too.

The Church of León is the largest in all of Central America. It is the famous place where Ruben Dario was buried. A lot of people visit his tomb, which is absolutely beautiful. Something you can't miss is the Ruins of León Viejo, it is an UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Hot Springs of San Jacinto, they are located bout 20km North of León but are fun to see. Its only $1 for foreigners.

The nearest beach to León is about 20min away. Las Penitas is a really beautifil relaxing beach. From there you can visit the San Venado Island, it is a protected area and is full of beautiful birds, all kinds of marine life and vegetation.

Another thing i see is very popular with the tourist that visit here is that they all head out to a volcano called "Cerro *****" which means Black Mountain. I wouldn't blame them, the contrast of the black volcano against all the green around it looks amazing. I have been there 7 times and you can pay a guide about $3-9 to ski down the volcano, yes, i said ski.

Ok, the only time i have spent the night in León i stayed at a semi-pricey hotel called "El Convento" which ran for over $60. But, there are a lot of great hostels as well as hotels in the city. Just check out the link below and scroll down to "Hotels" and choose one =)
