I am looking for a reliable home theater receiver that I can hook my bose 5.1 to. I would like it to have several HDMI 1.3 ports and if possible component and S Video ports. the kicker is that I really don't want to spend over $1000.

anyone got a model in mind??

  1. Don't get a Sony. Sony makes bs receivers. I recommend the Onkyo 606. It has 4 HDMI 1.3 inputs and upscales all analog signals to 1080i HD. It also has 2 component and 4 S-Video inputs. And the 606 pushes a solid 90 watts per channel. It is a 7.1 receiver so you have room to grow if you ever want/need to. It is a great receiver and you can get it for $400 shipped from Amazon. I recommend that you use the remaining $600 in your $1000 budget and upgrade your speakers because bose is overpriced junk. A decent sub/sat setup will outclass any bose setup.

  3. I have a Sony STR-DG720 that I really like.  It has 3 hdmi switching inputs that send both video up to 1080p and audio out.  Got mine for under $300.

  4. For 500.00 you can buy an Onkyo 805 on closeout that matches models costing three times as much.

I would also look at the Denon 2809 for under 1,000 or 3808 on closeout.

but best bang for the buck is the Onkyo 805  (Don't get the newer 806, Onkyo took alot of the guts out of the amp for the newer model.
