Can anyone recommend a lighter radio than the Motorola HT-1000? That can pick up same channels at an affordabl

I can't believe that anyone still uses the HT1000.  Hams, like myself, call these things bricks.  Many in the law enforcement community call these weapons.  They are heavy.  We use HT750s at work and the local fire department uses them and they don't have a complaint about them at least from what I've heard.  They are much smaller than the 1000s and if you have people that know how to talk on the radio, don't sound bad either.  However, being a radio guy, I don't like them.  They wear out easy and don't transmit right away when you hit the PTT button, like most Motorolas I have used.  One thing that I can't stand is for a radio to not transmit the instant I hit the button.  The weight is, though, light and probably what you would need.  If you are not using it as part of a radio network, I would recommend using Icom.  From experience, they are durable.

If you are using it as part of a network, then you don't have a choice, as Motorola uses many properiety technologies that not many other radio manufactuers can adapt.  Considering that you are using an HT1000 means that you can use just about any radio you want.
