We want to travel through France from Kent for a two week holiday ,with small children, in our VW but are unsure to which area we should travel to. East coast, central or west? We don't want to drive too far (i:e the south). Any recommendations?

  1. Probably the Loire valley. Why? There is a lot to do and visit. The weather is usually milder than the dead hot southern summer, and less crowded as well. If you get the ferry to Caen, you could avoid Paris, which can save you a lot of time and energy. The Loire valley is filled with nice villages, castles, reenactments, vinyards (not as famous as Bordeaux or Burgundy but still very envoyable). You can find camp sites in this area in guides

    Have a look there

  2. try brittany very nice just got back, camp at chateau des orms nice site clean plenty to do for the kids.try googling chateau des orms.easy to get to from england and not far to drive took us about 45 mins from landing in st malo.make sure you visit the markets at the local towns ,dinan etc

  3. Plenty of camp sites and beaches along the Vendee Coast - around Les Sables.   Depending on the age of the Children, and if you are in the area, you might want to sepnd a day at Puy Du Fou (the have an Engliah language website if you want info).

  4. Brittany (Bretagne) is a good bet. I've lived in France for 14 years and have camped and caravaned all over France. The Midi-Pyrenees are fabulous but may be slightly too hot for you in the summer. The south coast of Morbihan around places like Port-du- belon, Doelan, Port Manech, Le Pouldu are great. Lots to do such as canoeing, fishing, walking, horseriding, good swimming etc etc and good places to eat at. Camping costs and availability might be a bit of a problem for you during the summer near the coast though. May I suggest you try camping at a camping municipal site at a town full of character like Guemene-sur-scorff. Lovely town situated just 35 minutes drive or thereabouts, from all of the above mentioned south coast resorts.  Just the sort of place to dine out and have a drink after a good day down at the beach with the kids.

  5. It depends what kind of weather and scenery you want. The west coast will have beaches but the weather is a little unpredictable especially further north. The east will be more countryside and mountaineous and you may have lake beaches in the campsite. The Loire Valley is a good spot weather wise, there are lots of places to visit and its not too far south. Some camping tour operators are siblu, the french holiday centre, canvas holidays. Facilities are very good at most sites.
