I am trying to identify an aircraft that would comfortably accomodate a group of 9. May of the private air charter companies are suggesting planes that hold 8-9 that appear very tight and uncomfortable.

  1. Gulfstream, Challenger (604-605 are newer variants; 600-601 are older), Global Express, Legacy. The Citation Sovereign standard factory configuration seats 12. Net Jets gets them with eight seats, however. And they are not common charter airplanes (mostly corporate and fractional). Plenty of charter Gulfstreams out there. Enjoy!!

  2. Two very roomy and comfortable charter aircraft are the Falcon 2000 (seats 10 passengers) and the Embraer Legacy (seats 13 passengers).

The Falcon 2000 has a 6'2" cabin height, can fly coast to coast and across the ocean, can climb as high as 47,000 feet, typical cruise speed is mach 0.80 and can carry up to 1700 lbs of baggage.

The Embraer Legacy has a 6'0" cabin height, can fly coast to coast and across the ocean, can climb to as high as 39,000 to 41,000 feet, typical cruise speed is mach 0.76 and can carry up to 1000 lbs of baggage.

The Legacy is a better value for a charter.

  3. your budget is???????

  4. If you want roomy, stay away from the LearJets and the smaller Citations.  Those will hold 9, and will be relatively cheap but are a little on the smallish side.

If you are looking at a shorter haul flight, check into some of the KingAirs.  they are economical and bigger inside than they look, however they are kind of noisy.

Anything from Gulfstream or Hawker will probably be larger and roomier, however expect to pay a lot more for them.

Basically, the situation is this:  The more you spend the bigger plane you get.  Figure out what your budget is and go from there.

  5. Lear 45 will hold 9 pax.  It's fairly comfortable, but thats a full plane.  That should be a more affordable ride than the Falcon 2000, but the Falcon 2000 would definately have a little more moving room and can also fly much farther on a tank of fuel.  If your flying 3 hours or less, I'd take a Lear.

  6. Canadair Challenger 600  I was just in one on Monday..configured for 9 passengers...very roomy.  I'm 6'2 and could almost stand straight up..tons of legroom.

Again depends on how it was configured but this particular aircraft had four seats in a "club" one three place couch and another 2 large seats across from that....VERY roomy lav, one of the larger I have seen on a a private jet.
