Can anyone recommend a place/charity that would have use for 4 or 5 years worth of Smithsonian Magazines?

A used book store MIGHT take them.

You might also want to try your nearest children's hospital. The children might not want to read them, but the parents may be looking for something to read while they are waiting.

Yes, the library would be a good place, but perhaps your local educational facilities, high schools or universities for example.
