Can anyone recommend a wine that's comparable to newton unfiltered chardonnay?

It's my boyfriend's favorite wine and i've been trying to get a bottle for our anniversary but nobody has it anymore (from what I've heard they're making less now than they were so it's more rare.) I can't find it anywhere except one costco that's two and a half hours away. *sigh* so I'm wondering if anyone can recommend me something that's comparable and really d**n good. I'm willing to spend up to $60 but it really has to be similar, I've already planned a whole meal around it...

  1. Try a New York State "dry" Riesling.  You'll be surprised.

  2. With all due respect to earlier posts, there is really nothing similiar in taste to the Newton (you may try Saintsbury, Paul Hobbs or Morgan (a single vineyard), but I believe you may be disappointed when comparing it to the Newton), due to the lees contact and lack of any filtration.

Kim Crawford will basically have nothing in common with the Newton, and while dry riesling is  a fine wine, it isn't what you are looking for (either in name or taste).

Dr. Hsu-wa Newton (an absolutely fascinating lady with a PhD in microbiology...who just happens to own Newton Vineyards) makes her wines like no other, as far as I am concerned...which is why Newton is always at the top of my list.

I would say get the Newton however you can...and have a great dinner!

    Hope this helps.

  3. Just buy it online here is a link to a website you can buy it from and its priced really well too. Just type in the name of the wine into the search field of this website and it will tell you where you can buy the wine from. It can recomend wines to you too.

  4. I think Kim Crawford Chardonnay would be similar. It is more readily available the Newton and has a very good reputation. We drink it a lot. If it becomes hard to find, ask the liquor store person for a similar wine, from Australia or New Zealand.
