Can anyone recommend any 'good for value' restaurants in Cologne, Germany?

I am going to Cologne this weekend for the Christmas markets and wondered if anyone knew of anywhere that is good to eat? Not fussed on type of food, just would like fairly good value for money? Last time we went it was out of season and a lot of places were shut,so this time and hoping with the markets most will be open.

Any ideas will be much appreciated!

  1. Movenpick is good and not too expensive

  2. If you go to any Gasthaüser they are usualy a good value, and tasty! My fav. place to eat in Köln (Cologne) is a place called Mühle (or Mühle Kölsch) and has great food and even better beer. It is only a 5 min walk from the big Cathedral, so it's in a great location. Anywhere that makes their own beer (Kölsch) should be pretty good!

  3. If you are going to the Christmas markets anyway, why do ask for a place to eat? I don't know about Cologne, but the christmas market in my hometown is nothing but one eating stall next to the other, serving delicious traditional Christmas food. One stroll over the market from one end to the other and you are so full that you'll burst.
