Can anyone recommend good, informative foreign newspapers?

I would like to start reading foreign newspapers online (in English), and I was wondering which foreign newspapers to read. For example, I wanted to read a Parisian newspaper, but I was unsure as to which one to find. I would like a list of newspapers that have the same popularity in that country as the New York Times has in America, if possible. Thanks! =)

  1. Caijing is a well regarded Chinese magazine which focuses on business but also covers politics and society:

The Yomiuri Shinbun is one of Japan's most read newspapers, it has an english website:

    http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/dy/

Der Spiegel is Germany's equivalent of Time magazine, a respected newsweekly:

And finally from South Africa, the Mail & Guardian:

  2. Most English-language papers that are comparable to the New York Times are in English-speaking countries. Here's a good list:

A French newspaper like Le Monde is typically only available in French. However, some news services in non-English languages also present information in English (e.g., http://english.aljazeera.net/, http://www.france24.com/en/, http://www.xinhuanet.com/english/).

  3. Japan Times

    Sydney Morning Herald

    Times of London

Those are just three. You can enter their names into a search engine and get their URLs. Those three are not only as popular as the NY Times they are better. The only English language daily on line from Paris is the International Herald Tribune. Unfortunately it is co-owned by the Washington Post so it has the same left-leaning posture as the NY Times.

If you have web streaming available on your computer (especially pod cast capability) you might want to check out some of the short wave outlets whose web sites can be accessed through the link below. Radio France International offers one hour news shows about eight times a day via web streaming. Many others have pod casts which you can listen to on demand. Right now I'm listening to Deutsche Welle's News Link show from Germany
