I am looking for books, CDs, and instruments to introduce my one year old to music. Any recommendations? I would prefer to take a class but the only ones I can find are over $200 per session (such as Kindermusik). I live in Indianapolis. Anyone know of anthying cheaper as far as classes go?

  1. My little ones always loved using everyday objects from around the house such as pots and pans, wooden spoons, anything! We would always have our own little band. As they got older, I started having them listen to me do a certain beat and have them copy it! I think the key to getting little ones to love music is to expose them to many various types of music. Play different CDs in the car and at home. You can purchase a few items such as tamborines, little drums, etc... too. My 2 oldest now take piano and really love music! If you are still interested in classes, look at your local community centers or find out it there are any other moms out there who are interested in the same thing, and maybe you can start something!

  2. I too have a 1 yr old and we started out, just by listening to the radio, singing, watching music videos and also pots and pans, but if you want to really get them started, usually Kindermusik will offer a free session, or take them to the local toy store, they use to have a toy drum that had maracas, tamborine, symbol and some other instrument inside of it.  You could also get a used keyboard the kind with a demo button and help by teaching as well as playing with it.  Check with your local schools and sometimes the local libraries sponsor events like storytime/concerts or even playgroups where the kids bring their own musical instruments and jam.  Or if you have PBS there is sometimes a show called, "Music Funfactory" or "Mrs. Cabobble's Caboose" both are very good shows to get them up and singing and dancing.  Good Luck!+)

  3. you dont need any material at all... just sing directly to your son or daughter and i'm pretty sure that they're gonna luv it!!!
