  1. Good value and not too expensive in Tokyo - sorry its just not going to happen.  It's expensive beyond belief.  Personally I ate burgers and drank beer and it was more expensive than I pay for Japanese food in the US and Europe.

  2. Actually McDonalds is actually cheap there - but the sauce the put on most stuff like the McTasty is godawful. There are a lot of these ramen noodle and beef rice places where you put money in a tickey machine (usually with pictures of the food) then you give the ticket to the person at the counter, and they give you the food. It's best if you have someone help you who spekas and reads Japanese - but those places are also pretty cheep and not bad.

  3. The people who posted above have no idea what they're talking about. McDonalds? Come on... Tokyo has some of the greatest food in the world (I used to live there), so I'd be happy to recommend some places:

For the most incredible, outrageously awesome ramen - if you're going to *any* ramen shop in Japan - you have to go to this one. Try "Santouka Ramen" (らーめん山頭火) at Shinjuku Station, on the 7th floor of the "Mylord" department store. Ask for the "Toroniku shio ramen", which is their most famous. You won't regret it.

In Shibuya, on "Center-gai", there is a great Kyushu-style izakaya; take the Hachiko exit at Shibuya station and ask the police officer in the koban how to get there. The pan gyoza's really good.

For some of the best Italian pizza you've ever had (the chef is a true master, apprentied in Italy), try Da Pasquale - 3-28-3 Ebisu, Shibuya-ku. Take the Yamanote line to Ebisu station. Phone # is 03-5475-1761.

For great sushi, just head down to Tsukiji fish market in the morning. Enough said...

Does that help? You *must* go to Santouka and have the ramen. And stay away from American food chains - just watch where the Japanese are eating, and go there... you're guaranteed to find great food.

  4. don't eat anything there....it's prob a dog or cat.

  5. Mickey D's....
