my personal favorites for this type of riding are the gary fisher classic hardtail series. here is a link to look at their 3 bikes in this series ranging from 289 to 379 i believe

you might also want to check out trek and giant. (they are 2 of the biggest bike companys in the world so you probably can get the most bang for your buck with these two companys.)
