  1. This is a pretty big topic; I'll try not to go overboard.

"Strangers from a Different Shore," by Ronald Takaki.  It describes the Asian immigrant experience.

"Strangers in the Land:  Patterns of American Nativism, 1860-1925" by John Higham.  Higham is the authority in this field and he has written other works on the immigrant experience.

"Latina Legacies" by Vicki L. Ruiz and Virginia Sanchez Korrol.  This was the first non-fiction book I read about Hispanic women's experiences; it's very interesting.

"Danger on the Doorstep" by Justin Nordstrom.  About American anti-Catholicism during the Progressive Era.

"Citizenship and those who Leave" by Nancy L. Green and Francois Weil.  This is about emigration--people who decide to leave their homes and how countries deal with this.

    Hope this gets you started.
