My 11 year old has OCD - she is tormented by obsessive thoughts and engages in compulsive behavior - some of which is physically harmful like scratching her face or things like that. Her illness is robbing her of her chilhood and it is so difficult to see her having such a hard time with life. She is under psychiatric care, we are in the process of finding the proper treatment for her. I'm just wondering if anyone else is dealing with this sort of thing, please share your experience - it would be nice to know we aren't the only ones living this h**l.

  1. Bless your hearts. It is so difficult. I do not have a child with OCD, but I have worked with many children that do including my sister that has behaviors similar to. Biting her hands and hitting her head, ect.. and the only thing to do is to re-direct them. There are some medicines that help and a lot of them are medicines meant for seizures. I hate to scare you but she is getting at the age where hormones will have a huge affect on what medicines she can take and her behaviors. I am 31 and I have always had the privilege to learn from different conditions and Doctors do not always know according to Doctors my sister should have been dead a long time ago. So you have to take what they say and decide what is right for her, only you know her. Good luck, say your prayers, and I will for you. It is an illness just like Cancer or any other illness treat it as such and try to expose her to as much life as you can.God Bless.... ps. if you are not receiving financial help for helping her, go to your Income Support Division and ask to sign up for the DDwaiver.

  2. I gre up with OCD though mine was not as severe. I found it was easier to control it when I was in a controlled environment that didn't change much. Uncrowded, familiar and clean. I am extremely organized and I hate when things are out of order.

  3. I did and still am working on it. I know its scary and you have to just e there for her. when i was eight i would sit in my living room twirl my hair and rip it out.my ocd made me really angry and frusterated but when i got real bad my mom would go fix it quickly and then grab my hands and tell me every thing will be ok just tell her it will.
