Can anyone remember a movie set back in the early 90s that had a lil blk boy who was forced to kill his dog??

there was this movie in which a lil boy loved his dog, i believe it was a pitbull, and a couple of men told him either 2 kill the dog or they would. But since he didnt want the dog 2 suffer he did it himself and took him to an alley.. hanged him then shot him. Please its driving me crazy! It's on the tip of my tongue. Thank u in advance
