I don't really remember a great deal about it but here's what I do remember.

The main character is a female who wasn't born but was created in a lab of some kind, at the same time many other girls were created who look exactly the same. They all have the ability to do something if it is demonstrated to them (the main character can lip read after viewing someone talking about it during a school assembly.

I think the book begins with the main character going to some sort of awards ceremony because she has won an award for a story she wrote.

The only other part of the story I remember is the main character gets kidnapped (along with all the other girls who were created like her) and they are forced to wear necklaces which allow the kidnappers to listen in on what they are saying, at some point one of the girls figures out that painting the necklaces with clear nail-polish means that the kidnappers can't listen in.

I also know that it is part of a series of books.

That's all I remember, hopefully someone will remember this book.

  2. Sorry, I don't, but I'm curious to find out!

  3. This seems really familiar to me, but I don't know what it's called.  I almost feel like it was made into a movie.  Wasn't there something about the girl having braids?
