  1. Stretch jersey is a great fabric for travel, it won't wrinkle and it's non-binding. Please don't travel in sweats, that is so messy looking. Also there is a dress code in first class you should adhere to. Even if you're not flying first class when they choose someone to bump it's not going to be the person in sweats. If it's a long flight and you may want to take your shoes off be sure you either wear socks or bring a pair for warmth and for sanitary reasons.  And don't travel in heels if you can help it. I'm a professional at running through the airport in heels and it's still not fun! ;o)

  2. Layers definitely.

You'd probably want a comfortable t-shirt, or a light long-sleeved shirt (I don't know about you, but I'm warm most the time, so I'm in a Tee, if you get cold easily, put on a long sleeve, but wear a light one).

    Carry a light sweater/light fleece.

If you're going to be flying overnight, it'll probably get very chilly, so carry a heavier fleece than a lighter one, in any case, you can just put it over yourself, not having to wear it.

Don't listen to the poster above, they won't throw you off the plane to make a fashion statement policy for dressing comfortably.

And since you're asking this question, I think it is already a given that you do not need to be in your work clothes, so that's irrelevant.

  3. I travel very often, I never wear anything but sweats, a t-shirt, and slipper/shoes. I however still like to look nice before I get on the plane and after I arrive. What I usually do is change right before I board, and as soon as I arrive. So no matter where I'm traveling to I where comfy clothes. Whatever you do don't wear tight clothes like Jeans! Because of the high altitude your body can swell a little and the jeans can cut off the blood flow. So forget the heels, the jeans, the suits, just go in the most comfy, strechy, type of clothes.

  4. Light and loose clothing, carry a light jacket. I also suggest slip on shoes, and just because its a reality, by some odor eaters for those slip ons.

  5. Yes stretchy clothes that are lightweight would be best.  You won't get too hot and the stretch makes them the most comfortable.  Bon Voyage!

  6. I say farewell to fashion and just wear sweats (with a shirt underneath in case it gets warm).  The plane can get very cold.

Also, shoes with laces rather than slip ons, as your feet swell during flight.

Add:  Re the answer below, there is no "dress code" for first class.  Everyone is dressed comfortably, and many people wear sweats.  I've been there, I've done that.
