  1. Try to pin down a few college possibilities and see what sort of scholarships or grants are offered through the programs at that school. The Financial Aid office website for each school should have some links.

Subscribe to scholarship-locating sites like fastweb.com. They'll have you fill out a profile and then email you scholarships that fit the criteria in your profile.  You should be able to find more of this kind of site by googling "scholarship locator" or something similar.

Apply early (many deadlines are during the preceding school year -so if you want money for this academic year 2008-09, it may be too late for a lot of possibilities), and apply to lots of things. That's how my sister managed to get some scholarships to attend the same public university I attended for about half the cost.

  2. Try Sallie Mae's free scholarship search. Our free scholarship award database contains more than 2.9 million scholarships worth more than $16 billion. It is expanded and updated daily. You just answer a few questions about yourself and it matches you with scholarships you're eligible for. Also, we won't sell your registration information to marketers, like many of the large scholarship sites do.

    Good luck!

  3. www.fastweb.com is a good website, but you may want to decide where you want to go school first. Many colleges have their own scholarship programs that you can apply for.
