Question:

Can anyone share any opinions on all-inclusive resorts? Quality for your dollar? Good food/lodging, etc.?

My husband and I are looking to take a very relaxing trip next year, and I'm hoping I can get some advice from anyone who has gone to any of the Sandals, Beaches, Club-Meds, etc. They all seem nice in the brochures, of course, but I'd love to have some real-life experiences shared so I can make my decision.

  1. It really depends on where you are going.

If you are going to Mexico... you definitely want to stay at an All-Inclusive (AI).  You don't want to risk getting sick eating or drinking anywhere down there that doesn't purify their water. And it's really inexpensive... especially if you like to drink. All food & beverage is included 24/7.

However, if you are going somewhere where the water is good like Aruba (they have their own desalinization plant there) and the water is 100% safe... then the AI may not be necessary. The food and alcohol in Aruba (and many other islands) is very expensive so the cost of the AI may be worthwhile, but it also limits you to where you can eat.  Some places are as much as $150 per day more per person for the AI...so gauge how much you eat or drink and the cost before you decide if it is worth it.

The Sandals, Club Meds and Beaches are all fairly pricey. You can find resorts just as nice without going with one of the 'brand' hotels. Remember you are realtively restricted with where you dine, by going AI.  Because you have to watch the food and water situation, those types of resorts WILL have purified water for drinking and ice. Do your homework....

  2. We just got back from Sandals Regency in St. Lucia.  It was PHENOMINAL!  We loved everything about it and can't wait to go back.  We think it was well worth what we paid.  :)  Feel free to email me with any questions.  =)

  3. I have vacationed extensively at all inclusive resorts in the Carribbean , both with just my wife  or with our son ; I'm also a travel agent . If you are vacationing just you & hubby and your goal is to reconnect & just relax together , go to Couples resorts in Jamaica , specifically Couples Swept Away in Negril . It's a great resort for that , good food & service , nice rooms , well kept property & beach , and like the resort implies ,it's couples only . My wife & I stayed there last year & enjoyed it immensely . If you would like my help finding the perfect resort for YOU , email me ( gerry@snapshottravelagency.com ) with some details ( dates , departure airport , budget , likes & dislikes while on vacation , preferences , etc . ) and I will be glad to get you the best deal possible on the perfect vacation package for YOU , at the best price available anywhere ( my vendors offer a " meet & beat "  policy on any vacation package from any source on the web ) . I can offer you a personal touch & experience that can't be matched anywhere . Best Regards , Gerry Donnelly , Snapshot Travel
