it was difficult until I realized the only way this problem made sense was if it was like a magic square, with each single digit number used once and only once, that really narrowed down the possibilities

just remember to multiply BEFORE you add or subtract, and it works

I take it you're supposed to fill in the blank squares with numbers, such that the rows and columns read as correct statements?

Maybe... but it's a huge & tedious system of equations. One must solve:

A+BC = 38

D + EF = 51

G - H + I = 11

A - BG = -19

B - E + H = -3

CF + I = 59
