  1. THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK

  2. Diary of Anne frank

  3. some are kind of gorey, but anything on the holocaust can be really interesting...but also really sad.

  4. If you have ever seen the movie or read the book L.A. Confidential (and liked it), read "My Dark Places" by James Ellroy.  It's about his drug induced youth and his struggle with trying to find his mother's killer.  A very intriguing read.

  5. A fascinating biography that is getting great reviews is "Ibn al-Haytham: First Scientist" by Bradley Steffens. It tells the inspiring, true story of a medieval Muslim scholar who overcame bouts of mental illness to develop the scientific method two hundred years before the Europeans learned of it—by reading his books. It was just chosen by California Readers to be part of the 2008 California Collection. You can find reviews of the book and a sample chapter at http://www.ibnalhaytham.net/ Enjoy!

  6. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou, i think.

    Malcolm X by ?

  7. Helter Skelter,

    Sybil,

  8. "The Quiet Canadian"

    "Intrepid"

Both books are about a Canadian who was a master spy in British Intelligence before and after world war ll  He was a confidante of Winston Churchill during the war.  Churchill knew that America would and must eventually join the conflict with the Axis powers, but were not prepared to engage in the "secret war" of espionage.  He sent Bill Stephenson to the USA prior to Japan's involvement with Pearl Harbour, to set up and train a cadre of personnel. Stephenson chose

"Wild Bill" Donovan to head up the group, which was to become the Office of the Secret Service, the OSS, that later became known as the CIA.

It is a fascinating read, and a story so very little known among Americans.  Most of the American spies dropped into Europe and elsewhere were all trained at a camp in Ontario, Canada, that was set up by Stephenson.  Ian Fleming, the fellow who wrote the James Bond series, was trained there, as were many Americans who later became top bureaucrats in the CIA after the war.

Whatever you choose, good luck in your endeavours.
