  1. There are many embroidery machines that have a 5 x 7 hoop that are great. I feel the Brother PE-700 is the best machine to get a reasonable price. It has a great needle threader (great if you are old like me) and embroiders crisp and beautifully. It is also really easy to use which is great if you are just starting out. I know alot of others are harder to use.  got mine from mr vac and mrs sew. They have it at a great price and they have it with software that allows you to transfer designs from your computer to your machine and also allows to create your own designs great if you have logos and do a little business on the side like me. I also got it with the grand slam package which only mr vac and mrs sew has. That was a great deal and I got 10,000 embroidery designs, 61 spools of thread for the brother machine in a cool box, a hat and sock hoop, stabilizer and some other little things. It is a great machine and a great deal. Here is link to where I got it:

  2. Brother PE700 is an embroidery only machine you can get for around 800.

If you are near Raleigh, NC, Carolina Sew and Vac is the best place to go.  They are reputable and repair what they sell on site.

  3. I am a professional embroiderer and started out with a Brother 6500 and 8500 which has several good size hoops  (which you will really wish you had once you get started)    They are both solid machines with good stitchouts.  They also double as a regular sewing machine.  Cost wise you can get a nice used one for around $700 - $1000.    I hope this helps...
