My parents are quite old fashioned and like historic places, I like hot places with beach etc. I'm trying to compromise, I am 15, my parents are in their 40's. Any suggestions?

  1. Well, I'd say Paphos , Cyprus. You can take in the beaches while your parents go and have a look at the fort in the harbour, along with the nearby mosaics, and then, just a short trip away are the Tombs of the Kings. And not far away is Aphrodites Birthplace, and Aphrodites Rock. From Paphos, they could hire a car, and take a trip up The Troodos Mountainsd, and visit some of the mountain villages....and, just a little further on, take a drive into Lefkosia ( Niicosia) where they can take a walk around the old part of the city, or even take a walk across the newly opened part of the buffer zone in Ledras Street, through to the Turkish occupied North ( they must remember to take their passports. They can then go on to Kourion, and visit the Amphitheatre, and just a little further along the motorway, there is Kolossi Castle.

From here, you might want to join them to visit Agia Napa! There is an old monastery right in the centre, very close to the nightclubs and bars!! Napa also has some great beaches; Nisi, Adams, Lantra, and Makronissoss, and some very good bars and restaurants too ( and also has Europes largest Waterpark!) They can also take a leisurely boat trip along the coast, out of Agia Napa harbour, past Cavo Greko, Konnos Bay, Protaras, Pernera, Kapparis, and eventually turning round at thwe ghost town of Famagusta, before starting the trip back. this usually takes about four hours....stopping twice along the way for people to swim from the boat in one of the coves. All this for just a few Euros.

Protaras is also worth a visit ( and is also a good place to stay...ideal for families.) Good hotels situated along the coastline, and all withuin easy walking distance of shops, bars and restaurants.

  2. I agree with the first answer and suggest Malta. Fantastic weather and has the fortified city of Valletta for your parents to look around.

If they are interested in art I'd recommend going to see The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist  by Caravaggio in St. John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta.

Just watch out for the bus ride to the city though lol.

  7. Being ex RAF I have visited many parts of the world on and off duty, and always holiday abroad in paces that have both heat and history.

Last year I went to Egypt, Sharm el Sheik, you will find everything you want there, and as far as your parents are concerned, I can't think of anywhere with more historic places to visit.

  8. Lake Garda, Northern Italy: be careful which resort you choose, we've a 15 year old daughter.  Took her this year to Bardolino - beautiful and (although she took a school friend with her), we stayed in the Centre (the Catulo).  However, last year we stayed in the Park Hotel Gritti and she met other youngsters there (thank goodness she'd brought a friend this year and knew someone from last year in the Gritti, from near where we stay in the UK, who was staying there this year - a nice type of youngster and it was lovely for all of them - Gritti's just a little out of the centre - only 5 mins mind you).  The year before that we went to Gardone (across the Lake - Winston Churhill stayed there) - you'd (being a 15 year old) think it was Geriatric City there - but! - in the Grand Hotel Gardone - there's quite a good pool of youngsters there too - well she eventually..managed to discover that (being 13 at the time) from all over Europe, and being a bit on the up-market side of things - they're all quite educated (3/4* hotels upwards you'll find that!).  Italy's great for: a civilised holiday - no drunken bums/lager louts or whatever - just families on holiday; drink is moderate and it's frowned upon to go about drunk and so a civilised small amount of wine with superb food is always on the menu.  Our daughter had a lovely time this year - she met some nice Italian people too - as she's a social animal thank goodness!...Your parents (if they're anything like us) will LOVE Italy!  You can go on boat trips all over the lake - she shopping's great - lots & LOTS of stylish bargains - I mean really styllish/different stuff from home - a lovely breeze you get from the lake so you're not suffocating in the sun...Get narking to them!!!  Tel your ma and pa - the deserts are fabulous (never quite seen anything like the choice/quality in the G/H/Gardone - plus fab bacon/egg for breakies if you fancy every day!; the Gritti - food is again fabulous!..Catulo is ok for food - don't bother what the blogs say, take our word as the truth!..& tell them to try some Bardolino wine when there too - with their dinner in the evenings).

  9. Try Tuscany, Italy. It has a coastline, and lots of historic towns your parents can visit.
