Can anyone suggest a good stoppoff for a car journey between London and Leeds?

I am driving up to Leeds from London in a couple of weekends time for a wedding and would like to stop off somewhere fun/interesting for a short time to break up the journey. Can anyone recommend something (not a theme park)?

Try Knebworth, just off the A1(M) I believe, house and gardens to visit.

Sheffield is a cool place, and it's on the same route (well, just off) so you wont be wasting much time.
