  1. You can on Ancestry.Com's Public Member Trees or their Personal Member Trees.

  2. I'm a firm believe in Family Tree Maker.

I published an 810-page book based on 1 huge FTM file that I created.

It lets you attach photos (you can choose a primary photo for your family tree - - ancestor tree or descendant tree - - and you can do a personal scrapbook for each person and a marriage scrapbook for each married couple).

It also has built-in reports and trees and other features (a calendar of birthdays and anniversaries;  an index of everyone in the file and how they are related, etc.), and you can include notes and sources throughout.

    Best of luck!

  3. Take a look at 'Family Historian' -

I was sent genealogical info by a distant relative in this programme (UK) and was very impressed with it  - the way it both represented trees and generated reports that gave the information in different ways.

I have just taken a trial of it for 30 days and, though I'm currently broke, and it's just expired, will buy it in the future.  (I don't think it's that expensive).

I have trees lodged with Genes Reunited and Ancestry ( both of which programmes are staples of the whole genealogy thing)  but I found that, with this one, I could make a number of trees (not visible in any way by the the outside world) that were graphic and helped me fathom what I was trying to understand in terms of the relationships - and you can add photos etc.

  4. I've had this problem ever since 'The Keeper of the Tree' title was dumped on me. I used to have artist's cards (about A1 size) with lots of 'post-its' on, one for every researched member of my family. My next task was to rule lines etc etc until I had four of this cards, all joined up with sellotape -oops 'sticky backed plastic'. When I bought a computer I found, after spending money on Family tree programmes, that the ideal way was to use a spreadsheet. If you've used one you'll know this things go on for ever - I once plotted the whole of the family from Creation (son Zeus, daughters Memory and the muses, etc, ) and that took hundreds and hundreds of cells. But at least it let me organise the whole thing. What I did next was this: I printed them out and laminated them, then punch holed them then put them into a folder...BUT I didn't do everyone in the family, and this is the reason. Some of the family - the distant relations are sluggish, so I made a copy on disc, and sent it to them so that they can put their own family in it. If you put photos on the sheets and then laminate them you'll have those photos lost for ever unless you digitise them first and then do it. I hope that helps. (says phew and relaxes)

  5. I use tribalpages

    http://tribalpages.com/

It's free, very easy to use, and you can choose your security settings.  It's been very helpful to me.

  6. Familysearch will allow you to download free of charge a family tree program which I have found to be better than the one's you pay for & you can include photos it called Personal Ancestral File.

    http://www.ldscatalog.com/webapp/wcs/sto...

Thats the link that will take you to the web site download page

  7. Family Tree Maker - go to Amazon - i got mine for about £30.00 and it give you free ancestry access for 6 months so you can look up other memebers of your family.

I have it from a recomendation from a friend and i have to say it really is very good - i got the platinum edition.

  8. I use FAMILY HISTORIAN,it not only allows photographs, but also newspaper cuttings, articles, local notes and just about anything you can scan. Not very expensive about £30.00
