Can anyone suggest a "newly emerged" group to study for my Cultural Anthropology class?

I need to choose a group that has emerged in the last 10 years to study and write a paper about, but I am having trouble thinking of groups that are new. I need to be able to interview someone from the group several times.

  1. How about online religionists? http://www.cuew.org/cffn/index.html

Cffn was founded in 1997 and started the whole online religion group movement. There are bunches there willing to give an interview.

  2. Sounds like a rather hard item to classify: "newly emerged"

"group" what did they define group as?

Iraqi refugees in the US or any recent group if you live in other than the US.

Children of migrant workers who attend college (very few until the last decade)

Would openly "g*y republicans" be a group? but that is also in the last decade.

Returning soldiers from the "war on terror"?

This is a "dreadful" assignment without more information.

  3. How about "emo" kids?

  4. Howabout Yahoo! Answers?

Seriously, why not? It's less than ten years old, it's a group with fairly discrete boundaries and membership; there are common linguistic forms and mores among the members of this group; and - even better - it's full of people who are eager to answer your questions!

  5. Dope boys on the down low

  6. Try skateboarders.  There are some in my neighbourhood, they skate down the middle of the roads at night.  Some are pretty good at what they do but sometimes they go a little overboard by skateboarding on private property.  They think nothing of using their boards to skate on cement flower boxes in the downtown area and have caused local businesses to put up signs or alter the boxes to prevent the boarders from having a smooth surface.  I saw some trying to jump up onto a railing going down into my parking garage.  I told them to move on but there argument was why can't we skate here?  I asked them what their address was so that I could come to their house and do the same.  With that argument they moved on but if I was not their to stop them I am sure they would have continued and marked up a recently painted railing with scrapes and scuffs created by their boards.  You could examine why they think it is ok to skate board and mark up other people's property just to have fun for themselves.  Another topic could be the youths that think it is ok to take spray paint and put their signatures anywhere and everywhere in the form of grafetti.  It is a growing problem especially in downtown areas across the world.  I notice this on railway boxcars to buildings in Spain, New York and everywhere even on a green hydro generator box to the tops of buildings accessible from rooftops.  these are both growing problems that the youth of the world seem to think it is their right to take freedoms with other people's property.
