  1. You didn't mention what you wanted to experience. Getting too far from the water means very rural landscape and serious deer and moose hazards. Maybe too risky for any nighttime driving and gas stations get sparse and closed at night.

So hwy 401, near Montreal go across the St Lawrence and travel on Hwy 20, it's a lot nicer along the south shore than along the north shore but to visit Quebec city  you'll need to cross over to the north side for the visit, then go back to hwy 20 to continue the trip.

At Rimouski Hwy 20 becomes hwy 132. You really don't need to go all the way east to the Atlantic but I suggest you do. The easternmost part of Gaspe' peninsula is really, really, really cool. Nothing quite like it to my knowledge. Then you go west along the southern edge of Gaspe' Peninsula and see some really pretty Frenchie towns on the water.

Then down on hwy11 though N.B. to hwy 1 that goes across a bridge to PEI.

The ferry ride to Newfoundland is cool too, and its an amazing drive from Port Au Basque to St John. Very untouched and Jurrasic.

  2. I'd like to mount a campaign to encourage people not to go anywhere. Travel has become so expensive and unpleasant that it's hard to understand why people don't stay home.

Why are we crowding our highways and airports to get someplace else? Newspapers and magazines are filled with ads trying to get us to travel. They want us to go somewhere - anywhere but home
