Can anyone suggest an easy to use avi converter that i can d/load 4 free, please note i am a complete novice?

if you are converting it may be worth your while to download a codec pack .

try"k-lite codec pack"(free)

i didnt find any good free avi converters but i found a good site that i paid a small amount for....avs4you.com .  it was cheap and i got lots of different convertors...i think its like 26 bucks but i have used lots of there software.  you get lots....they had a converter that allowed me to make cassette tapes into cds as well.  all the software are easy to use and  are really awesome!!!!!

Are you trying to burn avi files to dvd so they play in a dvd player?
