and helping to make the forehand consistent in all areas of the court.

I have a wall where I practice, so any suggestions of any methods with using my wall to help improve consistency on my forehand and the movement that is important for it.

  1. Drill your forehand by ONLY hitting forehands to the wall, even when a ball goes to your backhand (run around it to hit a forehand).  Try to hit 20 forehands in a row, and increase that when 20 is too easy for you.  You should also hit forehands closer to the wall for a while, in a separate drill. This will force you to see the ball better, and make better contact. Good luck!

  2. its hard to say with out seeing you swing, i used to wear a weight vest just to get more foot speed. I would think wall ball would make the shot more consistent, but without someone to hit with the footwork is is just hard to practice. When i work my forehand i try to shorten the back swing, i feel like it makes me more consistent since I'm less likely to have my swing breakdown with a shorter stroke.

  3. A very simple exercise, but you need help from a decent player. They stand on the opposite base line and hit to your forehand short long, sliced topspin etc and you have to hit 100 forehands.Because of the ball always coming back at you and in different places,it teaches you to automatically move your feet as for a 100 shots you have to move to the ball or it doesn't count.Automatic movement is better than trained movement,as you do it without thinking. After a week increase to 150 than 200 (without stopping)With all problems of lack of movement, the main reason is lack of fitness.Once you hit 100 balls than movement is effortless. At my club many people have lesson to cure problems, without first improving their fitness,So...someone improves their serve with a lesson and it works for one set,but tiredness creeps in and your fast serve deteriorates.Fitness can cure most errors in tennis even if you have poor technique

  4. Try setting up targets up and see if you can hit that place. Maybe a can or something. Just play tennis regulary and your overall game will become better in time. Try working out your arms or biceps for more powerful shots.

  5. The best ways to practice footwork alone would be:

    1. Shadow practice (no ball just performing the stroke) with the proper footwork (this can be done anywhere though someone watching works best) and you could use Pro pictures and video to be able to visualize the steps.  http://www.procomparetennis.net is a free register site that has these Pro images.

    2. Drop a ball out slightly in front and to the side (stroke) or in front (approach) with a good bounce so you can step cleanly into the ball and hit strokes.

    3. Move to the wall and hit controlled shots allowing for proper movement, some recovery steps, and repeat.

What footwork steps to know depends on location of the ball and your stance.  Look For Forehands that:

Neutral (feet about perpendicular to the net): Left Foot pivots with Right Foot coming around, Left Foot hops with Right Foot kicking back

Semi-Open (feet diagonal): Left Foot pivots with Right Foot coming around, Left Foot hops with Right Foot kicking back, Right Foot hops with Left Knee coming up

Open (feet about parallel to the net): Both Feet pivoting, Right Foot hops with Left Knee coming up, Hips Shifting around

Running (Mogul and Power Steps): http://www.jezgreen.com/cuttingedge/inde... illustrates these quite well
