I've been to Phuket twice and stayed in Banyan Tree the 1st time and the Chedi the 2nd time.  If you have a big budget, definitely choose Banyan Tree - discreet, own pool villa, impeccable service, don't want to walk to the swimming pool, no problem, just dial the lobby and a golf cart will come and fetch you in front of your villa!  Isn't that amazing?  The Chedi is nice with its location further from the main city (taxi fare is so cheap that it's fine).  Got your own bungalow and the beach is just right down the steps.  In my opinion, the private beach of Chedi is better than the one of Banyan Tree.

I'd recommend Woraburi Phuket Resort. A nice hotel with good service. We specially recommend the rooms with pool access. That is pure luxury! Relatively cheap and great value for the money. I stay in 4 and 5 star hotels all over the world and from my perspective, this hotel was surprisingly good in every way! Great resturants next door and Massage. Fresh fruit cart on the corner.
