some won't. Believe me when I say that I am not gifted with a green thumb, but I don't care for artificial plants. I don't have any pets or small children. Thanks.

  1. The cactus idea is one of the best. Sometimes Home Depot have these and other decorative southwestern plants in a grouping in their lawn and garden area.

  2. I do not have a green thumb either, but about six months ago, I bought several spider plants and one peperomia at Walmart...the baskets were 8" hanging baskets and the spider plants were just spewing with babies.  They were just $6.00 per plant.  I couldn't resist.  I initially only bought three...and got them home and hung them...and then went back and got three more.

These plants have THRIVED in my townhouse.  I hung them in windows in various places, some get sun most of the day, some get sun only in the afternoon, and they have all done extremely well.  I make sure, however, that I remember to soak them in the bathtub twice a week and let them drain.

Because these plants have done so well, they have given me confidence in researching other types of houseplants and really looking at the tags at the nursery, making sure the conditions I have available meet the plants general needs.  I now have several ivy plants, several pothos plants, a ficus, and two other bigger floor plants that I have yet to identify (but yet to kill) that I bought on impulse because I liked the leaves.

  3. Spider plant

There is a vine that works well for those that don't have a green thumb but I can't think of it.

  4. My wife has a little cactus garden in a 9-inch diameter pot, and she only has to water it every other week.  It sits in a window facing east, gets sun most mornings, and seems to be doing OK.

  5. Cannas can be planted in a medium pot but need lots of sun.Caladiums need early light or sun but evening shade.Autum sedum will take anything and will return next year. I plant mine in a large pot and it will put out flowers in the fall but they are different.Cannas can return next year.I just realized you probably mean indoors. I have everything outside on my deck or in my yard,Ivy will grow well inside.A peace lilly plant will do well near a window.I water mine once a week on the same day and have had it almost a year now.Happy gardening or so to speak!

  6. Secculents thrive in a lot of light and are easy to grow and are similar to cactuses but without the pokey spines.  They also don't need frequent waterings.  Some examples are Jade, hens & chicks (which come in so many different colors and varieties-look on ebay) string of pearls, donkey's tail. The other plants that I have that thrive in a lot of light is an aloe plant, hoya, spider plant, & ficus(these are not succulents and need more frequent waterings.
