Can anyone suggest some plants for large flowerbed at front door?

We live in Eugene, Oregon and this flower bed faces west and gets noon sun but is mostly partail shade. Tall evergreens block the afternoon sun. It's a very large wooden box style and about 2 to 3 feet deep.I was thinking of large ferns maybe?

  1. u could try wave petunias or impatients if u like annuals.  delphinium are great and are available as a perennial or as a  biennial, which come every other year.  rose bushes are a great example for a classic flowerbed.  if u are willing to do the work, clematis are great perennials, but must be trimmed back every autumn.  i hope u like my suggestions.

  2. You should be able to get all of the information you need from a local florist.  Try this company:

Eugene's Flower Home The University Florist

    610 E 13th

    Eugene, OR 97401

    (541) 485-3655

    Good luck!

  3. I had this same question awhile back and had the same problems with partial shade and such. I am located in WA not far from you. The only things that seemed to grow in my 5'X6' flower bed and grow well are gladiolas (from the bulb) and a rose bush I purchased from WalMart back in May. There are other things I have tried growing but they havn't worked out so well. I actually bought my gladiolas from a Dollar Tree. I get so many compliments on them and they are easy to care for. I'm not an expert but I'd assume it is too late in the season to plant most things. Ferns sound like a good choice, maybe I'll try that one out soon! Good luck!

  4. Maybe Butterfly or African Iris

  5. hostas and day lilies. they come back every year and get large if you water them. also adding some multch will help it look even better!
