Haha like the title says!

I'm reading this one book and I'm supposed to analyze the work's sentence structures.

The author frequently uses lengthy sentences, but why?

What effect does it have on the reader?

My directions give an example that states, "...a series of short, simple sentences or phrases can produce a feeling of speed or choppiness, which may suit the author's purpose."

any help would be appreciated

  1. lengthy sentences can represent the character's/author's inability to come to a conclusion about a situation, the very lack of a solution to a hefty issue, confusion, desperation, restlessness (think about what the author is talking about when writing lengthy sentences-it's done purposely to portray his/her emotions-) it makes the reader feel restless and inconclusive, such emotions help to exasperate the severity of difficult situations so the reader better understands/feels what the character/author is trying to describe/explain
