  1. in braille i guess

  2. Deaf children can learn to read and write, but they just don't learn how to read the same way hearing children do. Actually, it's much more challenging for Deaf children because they can't depend on phonetics to help them. They learn a completely different way - through visual patterns (as opposed to rhyming), chunking, etc. It's based on a visual approach. What is very important, though, is having a solid language base first - American Sign Language (ASL). That's critical!  Only through a solid first language can one develop a second language successfully... hence a Deaf person learning English as a second language

  3. The most important aspect is the parents. They have to start early, never delay. Early intervention helps a lot. Expose the child with picture dictionary and teach him/her sign as well as speech but do not push him/her. Let him/her enjoys the books with the parents commitment. Love him/her just like others and through love, God will help us. Deaf are not dumb. They are just like other kids.

  4. What has being born deaf have to do with reading????? You don't have to know phonics to read a lot of kids can't learn using phonics and they learn.  What about all of the students who go to Galledate University in Washington DC????  That is a University for students who are deaf!!!!  I'm sure that they read.  To read you only need to know which letters are which!!!!

  5. Yes. It is not an easy task, but you can teach them.

  6. Yes, it can be done; and you don't use braille, that is for the blind. How is this child communication? Speech, sign or total communication? The methods you use will differ. If the child is speaking, they generally won't struggle as much as if they are singing. Grammar is different in ASL or BSL than English, so children often struggle to understand text at first, and even more so to write, but they can be taught. They simply have to learn that each printed word represents an object, much like their signs. Good luck :)
