  1. To tell all about Chile would require a book. It is a large, beautiful and fascinating country with lots of different things to see and do. Antofagasta in the mid north is on the Pacific Coast a few kms south of the Tropic but with a mild climate, because it is foggy much of the time, At the edge of the Atacama desert, the driest area on earth, the city is incredibly dry with rainfall almost unknown. The water supply has to be piped in from hundreds of kms away. The city hugs the coast with a mountain behind it separating it from the desert proper.

The city itself is pleasant enough with a small historical zone, the old port area. It is not a place to spend very much time, however. While Antofagasta is nearly tropical with a long, sandy beach, the water is quite cold and daytime air temperatures are cool most days. Good seafood, though. Its shopping and cultural amenities are those one would expect in a small and fairly poor city.

Instead of staying in Antofagasta, rent a car or take buses to the interior of the Atacama, to Calama to see the huge open pit copper mine and on to San Pedro de Atacama, a base for touring in the desert and the nearby Andes. Ethereal is my best adjective to describe the landscapes, especially the Salar de Atacama and the Andean area. Also worthwhile is the trip north to Arica and the Peruvian border and inland to some of the national park areas in the Andes.

  2. Well Chile is a land of contrasts....The northern part of Chile is desertic. This is where Antofagasta is located. A relatively small city located between the south pacific ocean and the atacama desert.

The middle region of Chile is of a mediterranean , template weather..While southern Chile s is basically very similar to New Zealand or Austria with its rugged forests, mountains and plenty of beautiful natural scenaries.

Its hard to describe Chile in just a few words, perhaps it would be a good idea to check some books or sites.

Chile is currently the most developed and safest nation in latin america

  3. im half chilean =)) but i havent been since i was a toddler... but cousins have and lookin at the pics i can tell its a gorgeous place...

if u wanna go i hope u go with a lot of time to spare.. u can do EVERYTHING.. from visitin the desert.. to a very moderate climate place to the super cold down south..... u get a lil bit of everything
