Can anyone tell me about a career in advertising?

I'm looking to go into advertising. Can anyone tell me what its like from personal experience or anything at all?

I would like to know if it is exciting? What kind of work will i be doing? What the income is like? Anything at all.

Advertising offers great opportunities to the right person. However don't think its easy.

Plan on long hours, missed appointments, and a lot of telephoning and driving to appointments.

If you really hate making cold calls on the phone stay away from this career move. Its unlikely you will get enough leads by call-ins to make a living. You are generally competing against other members of the sales staff for accounts.

OK so there are some of the bad things.

The real key to making money is how the commission structure is set up when you start.

The company should pay for a cell phone, offer gas reimbursement, some lunch tabs, and pay for reasonable charges to attend outside networking functions. These enable you to meat advertiser outside their office where you are in more relaxed atmosphere.

Most of your money is commission based. How thats paid is important to find out up front. Most of your deals are long term not one time buys so do you get paid on the entire contract and do you also make the same on renewals.

There's more I could type but I'm already putting you to sleep.

I know many salespeople in this field making a nice 6 figure income because they really worked hard on the front end to build a nice client base and now can make sure that these people are serviced and simply add a few new accounts here and there.
