  1. All I know is this lol:

After the death of Mao Zedong (formely known Chairman Mao) in 1976, the Chinese began to modernize their economy by introducing western ideas and technology (something Mao's government had been strongly opposed to). Central government control over the economy relaxed, and this led to an economic boom as new industries were established.

In 1989, students took to the streets of Beijing demanding democratic reform. Many students occupied Tiananmen Square, in Beijing. On the 4th of June, the army entered the square, killing more than 3,000 people. After the Tiananmen Square massacre the pro-democracy movement was ruthlessly supressed.

    Hope this helped!

  2. Google it.  There's plenty of info on the Net, including the famous picture of the dissident facing down the tank.

  3. during the student protest/sit in in Tianamen Square, the kids decided to have contests. "Lets build floats and sculptures representing our hopes for China" type of thing. Some built Buddhas, some Confucius's, some dragons, some modern buildings.

The winner of the contest was a 1/10 replica of  the statue in New York harbor called "Liberty Lighting the World".

    The Chinese leaders freaked.

    In came the tanks.

    3,000 plus died that day.

and we do business with these people?

and let them have an Olympics?

  4. It helps when you have the correct spelling of the name.
