Can anyone tell me about the Punjabi custom of 'paanch kaapdi dena'?

I'm not sure but I've heard its a religious custom practiced in Punjab. Can anyone explain what it is?

  1. I'm not sure what this is, Anyway what this phrase means is 'to give five 'kaapdi' . Dunno what kaapdi means. It could be kapde? meaning clothes. Still I don't think there's any ritual practised in punjab which is called that. But i'm not sure though...I haven't heard anything like that.
