  1. Halifax is not that expensive of a city. Atlantic Canadian life is more affordable than most other parts of Canada, in terms of property values. Gas and utilities cost a bit more. Halifax public transit is quite good.

Summers and winters are generally mild by virtue of being right on the ocean. Snowfalls can be heavy sometimes and storms frequent, depending on weather systems and the Gulf Stream, which can pass directly over Nova Scotia and bring every storm eastward to dump on the province. Summers are around 20 degrees Celsius, highest would probably be in the 25-27 degree range in July and August, winters bottom out around -10 Celsius around January. It tends to be dreary and foggy a lot, as I recall. You should check Environment Canada's website for the full rundown on Halifax's climate.

There are increasingly more jobs available as Atlantic Canadians move westward in search of high-paying jobs in Alberta, British Columbia and the Territories. But your credentials (musician and bartender) probably won't help all that much. Halifax has three large universities - Dalhousie, Mount Saint Vincent and Saint Mary's, plus smaller institutes (NSCAD, King's College), and the student bodies of these schools pretty much hold monopoly on the musician/bartender jobs. And there's no shortage of students.
