Can anyone tell me about the thing in georgia? ?

like with georgia and russia?? i have no clue about anythins i just keep seeing news updates and am baffeled =[

It's the Republic of Georgia which is a country that's partially in Eastern Europe and partially in Southwest Asia not the state of Georgia in the United States.

I'll give you a little briefing:

Georgia is a country bordering Russia that used to be part of the Soviet Union and broke away in the 1990's and gained independence. Russia, of course, was the former Soviet Union that broke apart in the 1990's.

The trouble is is that a Georgian province, South Ossetia used to be part of the Soviet Union. Throughout the 90's South Ossetia and Georgia had uneasy relationships. I think this is why Russian peacekeepers were involved. Now South Ossetia wants to become independent. South Ossetia  started a rebellion against Georgia and Russia funded and backed it. They even gave the South Ossetia  people Russian citizenship. Georgia and South Ossetia  started some skirmishes in Georgian villages with a few casualties.

Eventually, Georgia did a full-scale attack on South Ossetia to crush the rebellion killing hundreds, possibly thousands. This prompted Russia to go to war with Georgia to protect their citizens in South Ossetia.
