Can anyone tell me about vortex shedding...plz help?

  1. Vortex shedding is caused when air flows past a blunt object.



    When the airflow past the object, it creates low-pressure on the downwind side of the object. The object will tend to move toward the low-pressure zone.

    Then due to the movement of the air from high pressure to low pressure, there is a drop in the upwind side. Thus it creates a sin wave sort of disturbance.

    The major problem that is being created when there is a vortex shedding will be the vibration. This is mainly caused due to the resonance, if the vortex frequency and natural frequency of the object are equal.
