I want to know how to take care of a rabbit because I am going to get one for my birthday! And I know you people out there are thinking 'Don't get a rabbit If you don't know how to take care of it!' Well, before I saved a document about how to take care of rabbits, but then suddenly, one day after writing that document, my computer shut down, and then when I turned it back on, my document was lost and other things on my computer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. Okay, I can only hope that you will get your rabbit from a certified breeder.  Rabbits from breeders are cheaper but are of higher quality than those from a pet store.

Feed your rabbit pellets once a day but have plenty of timothy hay available.  DO NOT FEED HIM/HER FRUITS OR VEGETABLES!!  Disregard it whenever someone says they are good for your rabbit.  Veggies cause rabbits to have chronic diarrhea and digestive problems that could be fatal.  Stick with the pellets.

Allways have fresh water available for your rabbit.  Either a ceramic crock or a water bottle works, but mine prefer the crocks.

For the cage, get a wire bottom cage with a pull out tray.  Fill the tray with pine shavings or other bedding, just make sure that it isn't cedar shavings, which are deadly to a rabbit.  If you clean out your rabbit every few days, you won't have to smell the f***s or urine.

Don't bother with salt licks or other weird toys.  Get apple branches to have the rabbit wear down their teeth.  Also, Kleenex boxes, Oatmeal boxes, and cardboard pieces are good toys.

If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me.  Thank you.

  2. http://www.rabbit.org

    and

    http://binkybunny.com/Default.aspx?tabid...

have excellent information about taking care of rabbits I have both bookmarked and mostly memorized lol

And Vegetables are excellent for rabbits if they are introduced slowly and not all at once.

  3. GET A GIRL!!!!

Seriously, I have a guy, and unless you're planning on neutering shortly after you get it, get a girl. Guys are far stinkier!

And THANK YOU for taking the time to learn before-hand!

  4. Rather than putting the endless amount of information here, go to my website.  As a long time rabbit breeder and member of the American Rabbit Breeders Association,  I strive to inform people about our hobby and just rabbits in general.  My intentions of setting up my website were not just to "show off" my hobby animals, but to include information from showing, breeding, caring, feeding, purchasing, etc.  Very informative with many photos.

Referances always at your fingertips, just remember/bookmark my site!

  5. If you plan on keeping the rabbit in the house try House Rabbit.com.

If you want more than one go to the American Rabbit Breeders Association and they will give you good housing and caring information.

  6. There is care info here http://homepage.mac.com/mattocks/morfz/r...

  7. this is a really good site to help you

    http://www.gomestic.com/Pets/Usual-Pets-...

it contains lots of rabbit info.. but not too much

always get from the SPCA or shelter first..
