  1. Most of the "stronger" breeds are not recommended for first time dog owners, so that wasn't just the RSPCA being difficult.  They require stronger leadership than the other breeds you've dealt with.

Secondly, bringing up tow pups together is a bad choice, since the pups will bond more strongly to eachother than to you, and thereby will be more difficult to train.

So I advise you to give more thought to your breed choice, and get just one pup at a time when you decide.

  2. hiya NEVER EVER get 2 puppies from the same litter they will bond with there brother/sister with such a bond that you will never match up to it!

first if you buy a Rotti wait another 18months before buying another pup this require SUCH a amount of hard work that you will not be able to cope with 2 pups!!

who ever advised you to buy 2 pups at once as NO idea what they are talking about!!

research the kennel club for breeders and champ dogs, make sure they are fully health tested & mum can be seen and you can see from her temperament if she is well socialised! NEVER EVER buy from a pet shop!!

make sure your puppy goes to classes and is VERY well socialized, daily training sessions of 3 x 15mins so they do not get bored, the right nutrition etc.

also try out www.dogsey.com lots of rotti owners on there will be able to advise further.

these dogs are not like newfoundlands or old English’s, them are demanding and require extensive socialization and training to get them to a good standard, many of these are now ended up in rescue as people can not cope with there demands, breeders near me are struggling to sell 5 generation pure breed kennel club reg for £180 reduced from £500!

as some people are swayed by what is in the news, it is not the DOG it is the un-knowledgeable owners fault.

do research for at least 6 months min go and meet breeders go to rotti clubs do your homework and only then maybe look into it!

  4. I come from Nottm and have 5 pet shops in the Nottm area so have access to lots of breeders.

I also have 2 Rottweilers, a Mastiff and 4 other large dogs (I spend most of my time at a farm I own in Cornwall) and I would say 2 things:

1/ I am not aware of any good breeders in the Midlands, let alone Nottm. They are either small, runty dogs or are bred by tw*ats who are obsessed with size at the expense of all else. I have seen large Rottys that go off their legs at 3 and I have seen imbalanced and potentially dangerous ones being parade around the street like status symbols.

You will have to look further afield I am afraid if you want a big, healthy, happy and loyal dog.

2/ Seriously consider not getting 2. They are a dominant breed and believe me, they WILL bond very closely and if one kicks off they both will. I can 100% control either dog separately but together they are a different thing entirely.

What I get away with in an isolated 300 acre farm you will not get away with when you are in the park or another public place and it could well cause major trouble.

Having said all that, they are a fantastic breed and I wouldnt be without either of mine.

Any advice feel free to e-mail me and if you find a breeder I'd be happy to have a look at their website for you. You should also ask them to e-mail you pics of both parents (not the pups) and send them on to me and I'll look them over if it would help. If they cant supply pics of BOTH mum and dad then, whatever excuse they give, walk away. A good breeder will have loads of up to date pics of the parents and maybe past litter pics.

  5. The RSPCA wasn't being difficult or trouble, they wanted the dog to go to the right home. The breeds that you have owned do not have as much as a "dominant" personality. Breeds such as Rottweilers, Dobermans, Shepherds, Chows, APBT's and what not have a dominant personality.

If you don't know what these breeds personality are like or have any idea about them whatsoever, it is best you find another breed.
