  1. the number one thing to remember is control the center of the board no flank attacks strong players will beat you.Go over chess puzzles.and also go over games in magizines and in books it will show you the opening and how they should be approched. And yes play stronger players when ever you can.and don't be affraid to lose at first it takes time and training to get better. And one last thing find a couple openings you feel comfortable with and study them.

  2. If you want to be a really good Player and not a Patzer buy  a really good book on the the endgame and study it really well to quote Capablanca:

"In order to improve your game, you must study the endgame before everything else, for whereas the endings can be studied and mastered by themselves, the middle game and the opening must be studied in relation to the endgame."

Knowledge of the endgame and the elements is essential before going on to middle game and opening studies.

  3. Record the moves of your games and study the games you play, especially the loses.

You can learn more about chess from the games you lose than you can from the games you win.

You don't say anything about where you are as a chess player, so I'm assuming you're at somewhat of a beginning or novice level.   A player who was over, let's say, 1600 or 1700 would know some good resources to improve their skills, and wouldn't reject references to web sites out of hand, or out of laziness.

There aren't any magic words that anyone can tell you that will make you a better chess player. Sorry.     You have to read.  You have to study.  You have to play the game.  If that's too much work for you, then find another hobby.

  4. join the uscf and play in tournaments

  5. A lot of great answers from everyone who's responded so far.

If your not in a chess club, look one up.  I was in a chess club before I was in my teens and it taught me alot.

  6. u don't make sense,did u read what u just said

    lol

My rating is above 2200 at yahoo chess,I just did it thru playing in chessmaster program, and visiting website that teach free chess lection,no one come down to me to teach me

if u change of mind visit the chess group who does expecify info about u problem

u need practice combination of piece problem, this is good for speed game 3/0 min

  7. You can learn more from a good chess book in an hour than from a hundred practice games. Playing is important, but if you don't know what you're doing, everything is trial-and-error, mostly error. The vast majority of chess books are written by chess masters with years of experience in playing and teaching. Play Winning Chess by Yasser Seirawan is a good beginner's book. I guarantee you'll be a much better player after reading it.

  8. Regularly practice solving the chess quizzes and puzzles that you occasionally see in newspapers but better is to buy books like the Polgar book "5334 Problems, Combinations, and Games".  Study this type of chess book and you'll get better.

  9. Keep playing against tougher people.

  10. From watching my husband over the years I can tell you that once he started learning the openings, his game started moving.  Start with Alexander Alakine (sp)  anyway learn all of his stuff, then learn the french, dutch , and indian.   Join a club, do some tournaments to gain experience.  Your game will move.

  11. Just keep playing against people who are better than you.  You will learn more by getting beat, than you would remember by winning against weaker opponents.

  12. The more you play the better you get, play against people who are better than you and never hesitate to finish off a game without having to get rid of all the opponents pieces, when the chanve to corner a king comes then take that chance, also think about what move you would make next if you were the other person, and make sure you don't give them any openings to attack you

  13. The best way to become better is to practice.  Buy a book about chess, one that will work for you.  Set up a game in your house and play both sides, using your book to help you, and playing the moves explained in your book, as well as others.  Play chess with as many different people as possible, especially people better than you - you won't win many games but you will learn a lot.

  14. First, get a teacher,he/she might be able to teach some beginnish-intermediate stuff.Buy some books and a chess program.while reading the chess book it is important to sit next to a chess board, then play agaisnt the computer.

repeat the reading and chess program for a while.Afther that play some people in tournaments or online. But reading the chess books is a very vital thing.

    Use programs like FRitz,Chessmaster,Shredder,and rybka.

Books:any books are fine mainy on openings.
