I wanted to go to south america with a friend in july, but have no more. I'm a struggling artist (filmmaker). We were trying to fly in to panama, and take the bus to south america, and through the continent. How can I make a enough money to get by for a month down there?

  1. A month? Backpacking? Let's see at BEST you could make 20 miles a day. 30 X 20 is 500. 500 miles wont take you from Panama to Ecuador. Why not use a bus, take a little cash and pick ONE country? Be careful.. a tourist alone with a backpack can be super uber Dangerous.

  2. You do realize you can't get to South America without flying or taking a boat to Colombia. The Darrien gap is still virtually impassable.Although it is possible to work there, it is illegal and if you are caught working on a tourist visa/permit you will be fined and may even be arrested and jailed.

A month is not very much time.South America is huge.I have been several times and usually budget $35-$50USD a day.It would be hard to do it for much less.If I stop somewhere for  awhile I can usually get by on a little less money ($20-$25 a day).I hate to be a buzz-killer but it is just not as easy or  inexpensive as you might think it is....Buena suerte!

  3. Do some volunteer work to shoot some footage. It won't be much, but enough to get around, which means you will have to travel by bus.
