  1. Try dialling 150 - that usually puts you through to customer services for most providers.

  2. Try 17070 and ittl read the number back, if it doesnt 147017070 should work as line will be number witheld.

If the line is stopped then there is no charge for reconnecting for any provider so dont let them charge you and this is the most likely. The line could also be in TOS mode which is like a debt management setting which would be more tricky as the provider still has control.

All providers should be able to restart this line just by the address (itll give them the option of starting a stopped line) but if its a flat it could restart a wrong line.

The big problem would be if it was Talk Talk to name one as what these fellows do is take your normal telephone line and remove it at the exchange onto their own VoIP carrier instead of bts network, if this is the case your new provider would not have the option of restarting it, you would have no option but a new line even though you have one there.

  3. I would love to help but I don't know what a 'provder' is?

  4. first thing try dialing 17070 this may (and this is an only may) give you the phone number of the line.

the fact you cant make out going calls suggest the line is actually free and unassigned, there for you have no service provider and are free to go to any you would like and dont have to worry about that, though be aware some will charge you a full connection fee for connecting the line, whilst some like bt because theres an exsisting line probably wont charge a connection fee.

in the unlikely case there actually is a service provider on there already its most likely BT as most rental agents prefer tenants use them as it makes things easier when the previous occupant moves out. but shy of calling all the providers theres no easy way to tell

  5. that dial tone is for you to be able to call 911 even though you don't have a phone - you'll have to pick your own provider :-)

  6. dial 147

    i think its that number

if its BT you will be transered to the free provider service

  7. If you are in the US, dial 1-800-444-4444 for your number. To find your long distance carrier, dial 1-700-555-4141 (free)
