Can anyone tell me how to get a virus out of your computer without paying for it?

I don't have the money right now to buy a CD of virus protection. So I was wondering is anything on the internet free to scan it to get the virus out first?

Any info is helpful.

Thanks!

  1. Now Nick B must be a mind reader, given the sparse information the advice to format is unsafe and unnecessary.

Everyone has their favourite, for me the following work:

Avast anti-virus better definitions, anti-spyware and anti-rootkit built in, faster and more reliable:

    Setup Guide:

    Online Armor Free Firewall:

    Installation Tutorial:

    Spybot S&D:

    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/downl...

Download, install, update and Immunize, then click 'Check for problems' then when complete select all and then 'Fix Checked'

To scan and remove other malware:

    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:

    http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Ant...

Simply download, install, update and perform Quick Scan.

Also use Spyware Doctor Free Basic Edition, which offers realtime protection:

    http://pack.google.com/intl/en/pack_inst...

Its free with Google pack, untick all boxes except Spyware Doctor. Download install, update and run.

KeyScrambler which encrypts everything that you type in including credit card numbers etc.

    http://www.download.com/KeyScrambler-Per...

Works on most browsers, email clients and IM programs, and it's free.

    How to use:

Also install SnoopFree Privacy Shield which  is not another scanner product.  It's a powerful shield that guards your keyboard, screen and open windows from all  spy software.  The way it works makes it  virtually impossible for any spy program to work on your computer:

These are all free programs, some may require an email address for a license, but that remains free too and they don't spam you either.

So, among the answers given by all contributors you can test drive whatever takes your fancy.

  2. Their are a bunch of free virus protection on the web.

    There is avast ( www.avast.com )

    AVG ( www.free.avg.com )

    and more

    I use avg

    good luck

  3. I had a really bad virus that was placed on my computer by my sons girlfriend when opening a email from a freind on my laptop. I asked a that has his own shop,, an he said to try using malewarebytes. I ran the free program and it worked really great. I have severl freinds that also used and found lots of or programs that helped make the repair pretty easy.

  4. Restart your PC in safe mode with networking

Download, install and run a full scan with Malwarebytes

    http://www.malwarebytes.org

Run a full scan with Micro Trend House Call

    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

After the scans, restart the PC and update your anti-virus, remember to only have one anti-virus installed on your PC

http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-...  [Free, if you do not have one]

  5. Avast  and Antivir are the best free antiviruses get then from http://www.download.com.

You should forget AVG 8.0 free edition it has a nice interface but is poor at blocking viruses so not worth using.

I've tested both Avast Home Edition (free) and AVG 8.0 (free), AVG let me save 75% of the test viruses to my hard drive only blocking 25% were as Avast blocked 75% of viruses, Avast picked up the other 25% of the viruses that were in zip files the second I tried to extract them.

I use Avast combined with Comodo Pro on my XP home computer and have no problems with virus's or spyware.

    Test them yourself: http://www.eicar.org/anti_virus_test_fil...

  6. I really doubt you want to do this, but if its a very serious virus thats wreaking havoc, you may want to format your pc, therefore restoring it completely and erasing EVERYTHING, not much else I can say

  7. You shuld try AVG. It is free and it will remove all of your viruses.
